Jo's arrival

Jan 16, 2011 11:23

"I'm sure this isn't right," Jo said, as she looked around the lobby. The hotel's interior didn't match its exterior at all. And it was certainly not the sort of place she'd chose to stay in - it was far too opulent. She sighed. Something must have gone wrong, she just didn't know what ( Read more... )

Jim was on his way in from the store with a bag of snack foods -- apples, cheese, and pretzels, because snack doesn't mean unhealthy -- when he found the lady talking to nothing. Considering he'd done the same thing when he got here, he really couldn't judge. He did wait a moment before approaching with a cheery, "Damn those doctors."

"It's not always his fault," Jo conceded, not at all worried at being caught talking to the air. She smiled at the man. "I don't suppose you can tell me where I am. I travel a lot you see and it's very disorienting. I just got off a hovercraft and I'm supposed to be in Norway, but this doesn't look like what I expected."

"Well, I hate to say it, ma'am, but you're not in Norway. Or anywhere else on Earth, if we're going to be honest here," he said, giving a sympathetic smile, but noting the hovercraft bit. It dated her a bit later than most others she'd found here. "This is El Dorado. Sorry you're here."

"Well, that explains a lot." She hadn't been off Earth since she left UNIT and now here she was, doing it twice in the same week! "I'm not sorry. I love seeing new places." She grinned. "Tell me all about it." And then she noticed he was carrying a bag. "I'm sorry, were you on your way somewhere?"

"Just up to drop this off in my room, but it's nothing that needs to be refridgerated or anything like that, so we're good." With a charming sort of grin on, he gestured at one of the quaint little loveseats in the lobby. "Would you like to sit or get a walking tour?"

Jo gave him a wide smile. "I would love a tour from a handsome young man." Also, it would mean she could find out if Santiago was here too, or if he'd been left alone in Norway. She was sure if he had he would know to stay put and call someone to come and get him.

"What should I call you?" Everything had all been so unexpected she hadn't thought to ask.

Jim was already moving to the lobby desk, to check where she was staying. He could show her her room as part of the tour. "The name's Jim. Captain James Tiberius Kirk if you want to get really formal, but... there's not a lot to captain around here, so Jim works just fine," he said, grinning over his shoulder at her before going back to the paperwork. "You wouldn't happen to be Jo, would you?"

"Jim, then." Jo was quite happy not to be that formal.

"I am," she said, wondering why he'd asked. "Jo Jones." It looked like he'd read it off a list and it was a fairly common name.

"Jo Jones," Jim echoed, sounding pleased as anything. "You're my roommate. Lucky lady. I guess I know where I'll be showing you first, then."

"You mean here?" Jo didn't look that pleased about the idea. "I don't really like hotels very much. They're so impersonal."
