Mal had let a good chunk of time pass between the first time he'd addressed the other people living in this place and now. That was mostly because he had very little to say while he was exploring and getting familiar with the place he'd been stuck in.
Luckily for him, adapting was something he was good at, and so it was not long before he had begun the process of coming to terms with the sudden change. That left just one thing to do: make some connections and see what there was to do around here. There were a lot of things that Mal hated, like complications and feminine wiles, but most often, those were things that couldn't be helped. Idleness, on the other hand... Well, that could be dealt with.
"What do you folks do around here to stay busy and keep from gettin' bored?"
