[Location: El Dorado Police Station] Wanted: A Few Good (Wo)Men

Sep 18, 2010 19:42

Lassiter had taken it upon himself to advertise. The police station in El Dorado was seriously lacking, and while Carlton didn't mind being able to run the show, he knew that he'd need help if anything else went wrong. In the wake of the building's collapse, Carlton had set up a crude flier to post around the city. It had been short and sweet:

I ... am so sorry. hasperkynipples September 19 2010, 01:55:41 UTC
So Dean was driving around in the Impala, as he did almost every day, and he decided to stop for a burger. An hour later, he was coming out of the diner to a flyer talking about police recruitment. If this had been the real world, he probably wouldn't even have seen it. With his record and the job that he does, working in law enforcement was never going to be an option for him. He would have just gotten back into his car, drove off, and it wouldn't even have been a blip on the radar. It was supposed to go the same way here.

He really shouldn't have given it a second look. He should have just walked away, got back in his car, and went on with his life.

Dean never really does anything he should do ( ... )

Carlton was practicing a short round of trash can basketball when Dean walked in. Quickly, he dropped his feet from his desk and sat up straight. Clearing his throat, the detective looked over the man before gesturing to the chair on the other side of his desk.

"I assume you're here about the flier? Detective Carlton Lassiter." He half-stood and reached a hand across the desk to offer it for the other man to shake.

Dean figured he'd come far enough he might as well see how things went. He extended his hand back to Lassiter with a nod. "Dean Winchester. Nice to meet you."

Way he figured it, he was probably going to end up in this precinct one way or another. Might as well let the first time be by his own choice. He sat down at the chair across from Lassiter, before leaning back and kicking his feet up on the edge of the desk. "Nice place you got here."

After a nice, firm shake, Lassiter relaxed back into his chair. He was about to speak when Dean's feet ended up at the edge of his desk. Carlton stared for a moment before clearing his throat and leaning forward. His hands folded in front of him.

"It gets the job done. Did you have any experience in law enforcement prior to coming to El Dorado?"

"That's a really awesome question," Dean nodded, as he tried to figure out the best way to answer that. He could just come out with it and say he has a rap sheet to the moon, only about seventy-five percent of which he was actually guilty of, but he had a feeling that this would end the interview real quick.

Dean wasn't done being entertained that.

"I've done a lot of ... investigative work. Tried on a lot of different hats, you could say."

Carlton's expression hardened, but not for any reason that Dean might have seen before. "Private investigation? If you even think about saying the word 'psychic,' this conversation is over." And he couldn't have looked any more serious if he tried.

"What? No, no ... I'm not psychic. Not even close."

Dean paused, considered his next response for all of a minute, before responding.

"I hunt the supernatural."

Carlton stood in a hurry, pointing towards the door.

"Out."

Dean held his hands open in front of him with a bit of a grin.

"What? Does that mean I'm not qualified?"

"It means I want you out of my damn office. Now." He couldn't take another round of this bullshit. Supernatural hocus pocus. It was all a load of crap that Spencer had managed to get the Chief to buy into. Well, not this time. He was going to nip this in the bud.

"Alright, alright. Fine. I can take a hint."

He moved his feet off the desk, before pushing up onto them, before pointing at him.

"But this means you can't play with any of my guns."

"Out!" He said for a second time. He filed away the reminder to keep an eye on this guy in the future, but there was no way he was going to waste his time arguing with a guy who reminded him even slightly of Shawn Spencer.

Dean laughed as he turned to head out the door, waving back at the man over his shoulder.

"You have a good one, Detective."
