I'll be there
----
It didn't take much more but prompting from her mother for Ashley to be punctual. She usually was anyway, but that was beside the point. She strapped her weaponry on, as usual, then headed out. It wasn't a long walk, and the weather was balmy and pleasant. It was weird, actually, considering that half the time? It was raining back home. But she wasn't about to complain because of sunshine.
Ash spotted her mom the second she approached the little cafe, and her walk got a bit more brisk. She didn't waste time, either; just plopped right down. "What's up?"
"Did you honestly have to come out with your weapons, Ashley?" Helen asked with a sigh but shook her head. It was good she was keeping her guard up. It meant that she didn't trust the city. Which she shouldn't.
"I need you to come with me and do a final check of the building that will be the Sanctuary."

"Do I come any other way when I'm outside of comfort-zones?"
Helen knew better, and Ashley knew that Helen knew better. Her mom knew her patterns like the back of her hand; she understood her daughter's habits. The blond took the sigh with a grain of salt, and that little snarky smirk in the corner of her mouth would alert the older woman to such.
Her eyebrows rose, and she gave a nonchalant pout of her lips, accompanied by a shrug. "Sure," she acknowledged. She didn't really need to tell her mom that she was on board. But she wasn't just gonna sit there silently, either.
"So, you've done a pre-sweep already, right? Or are we heading in blind?"
No, no~ people have been busy! It's fine~notanemptymottoJuly 24 2010, 06:41:34 UTC
"One of the young women that has agreed to come on board was with me on the pre-sweep." Helen said. "It's very similar to the UK Sanctuary... almost identical. I believe it was the previous Central Mansion before the one we all came to was built."
Helen rolled her eyes at the pout. Ashley never changed. "The two young women joining our team along side James are Rose Tyler and Cassandra Hack. Have you met with them before?"
"Good. So the place is clean on general terms. Leave the nitty gritty to the experts, right?" That was Ashley's way of making sure she was still head-bitch-in-charge as far as firearms went. It was subtle, but the connotation was there.
"Hey, less floor-plan reconfiguring if it's kinda like something we already know, right? No big hassle trying to figure out what parts of the building can hold more this, that, and whatever."
"It needs cleaning, but yes, nothing dangerous is there."
Helen raised her eyebrows at the way Ashley was speaking, but understood. She had a place on the team and wanted to secure it. Cassandra had her own experience with weaponry, and so did Rose, but she didn't know their skills compared to Ashley.
"They any good with a gun, mom? Or are they more on your level, all science and giant brains?" Ashley was evaluating before she'd even met them. If she was going to have her normal place as pretty-much-in-charge-of-people-who-handled-shooting-stuff, she needed to know.
"I believe at least Rose is, I'm not entirely sure about Cassandra." Helen motioned the waiter over for Ashley to order before they headed out for their endeavor. "If they aren't than I'm certain you can train them,"
"I give you plenty of credit. It won't be your fault if they're all weird after they butter you up. Y'never know." Ashley shrugged, giving her mother an innocent looking pout.
"Fine, fine," she sighed, topping off the whole attitude-ridden display with a very pronounced rolling of her eyes - headbob and everything. Ashley stood, grabbing what she'd ordered and heading out to the sidewalk. "It's not like anybody should be surprised about the freakshow around here, mom. The gods, or whatever, wanted us here. These people should be used to it."
Helen raised her eyebrows and folded her arms across her chest. It had been longer for her, and she certainly had enough attitude from Will lately - back home - that she wasn't as tolerant of it as she was before.
"People, Ashley Magnus, do not change, regardless of the circumstances." Helen said shortly. "They are not going to want to show the world, let alone strangers from all over the cosmos, who and what they are."
"Hey, y'never know. Black ops, spies, double agents? Mom, it's not like they don't exist here. I'm just being cautious." She held her hands up, palms beared, to signify her complete and total innocence in all of this. Even if it was bullshitted.

Nope. Ashley Magnus was not a changing woman.
"Neither of 'em."

"I'm sure you'll have the chance."
