And she was. Five minutes late, but Cassie was there. Her hair was damp, slowly drying. It would certainly explain her lateness. She'd even attempted at dressing somewhat nicely for Dr. Magnus. Button down shirt, black skirt, and her boots. She didn't want to seem like she was trying too hard.
A yawn cracked her jaw a little as she lifted her hand to cover her mouth. "G'morning, Dr. Magnus. What's up?"
Helen smiled at the attire. It was amazing what would happen to one young woman when they met a lady. Almost if they wanted to prove they were just as refined and patient as the older woman. Not that Helen thought Cassie had to change. Well, clean up her language a tad, maybe. But, Helen was guilty of a foul mouth in her day as well.
"Did I wake you up too early?" Helen asked as Cassie sat down.
"Not really," Cassie shrugged as she sat. "Just...haven't been sleep well, is all." Still.
The waitress came by to check up on Dr. Magnus and see if Cassie wanted anything. She asked for a coffee and an order of bacon, eggs, and toast. As the waitress departed, Cassie looked back to Helen. "You don't mind if I eat, do you?" She asked, giving a small smile.
Helen sat back in the seat. She didn't want to seem as if she was rushing Cassie for an answer, but, she wanted to know as soon as possible. She'd have to have another talk with Mr. Wayne about how his side of things were coming.
"Thanks," Cassie nodded. She looked down at the table for a minute, lifting her hand to stifle another yawn. "So, how'd you sleep?" Cassie asked, making polite conversation for now.
She'd told herself, after the 4th, that she'd tell Dr. Magnus. Her story.
Her shitty, 'yes my life sucks hard, this is how' story.
No wonder Cassie was the way she was. Always dodging, always trying to run away. Underneath the hard exterior she was just a scared young woman. While she wasn't familiar with the concept of a slasher, who was to say those things weren't real? The things she had seen in her life time... the things that Cassie had seen. No one should have seen things like what Cassie had seen.
She reached over and put her hands on the young woman's affectionately.
At that small gesture of affection, Cassie broke down. She hadn't intended to. Hell, she didn't want to, but she did. Fat, hot tears spilled down her cheeks as her chin touched the top of her chest. She said nothing for a few minutes.
Partially out of heartache. Part of it from shame of sobbing like a little girl out in the open. She didn't know what to say next.
That it was possible that she'd end up like her mother? That her had had been alive the whole time he was missing and then when they were reunited, her mom had been brought back and snapped...again and Cassie had to kill her mother...again. Then minutes later, find out her dad had died.
"'m sorry," Cassie muttered, her voice a little on the hoarse side as she lifts one hand free from Helen's, wiping at her face.
"No, Cassandra, you have no reason to be sorry." She said softly. "You should never feel sorry for being hurt. Especially when it was something from someone you loved so much."
Cassie lifted her gaze, looking up at the woman sitting across from her. She knew about Cassie's shit past and still wanted her help. Still wanted Cassie. Her throat tightened up on her again and Cassie nodded.
They all had their dark secrets. Cassie's was just as dark as hers. How could she judge the young woman in front of her after the things she had one? She couldn't. Not at all.
"I'm glad to hear that. I'm sure Ms. Tyler will be as well."
"Who?" Cassie asked softly, sniffling a little as she picked up the napkin in front of her and wiped at her face.
Now she just felt awkward as hell. Breaking down crying in front of a woman you were going to be working for was kinda...stupid. And weak. Way to go, Cassie. At least, that's what she told herself.
Helen just smiled. Honestly, she didn't see the problem with it.
"Miss Rose Tyler. She is another young lady I've asked to join the Sanctuary team. She has some experience in the things that are extraordinary. Just as you do."
She nodded. "Not exactly like you, but yes. Both of you have done things and seen parts of the world that many don't believe exist. Those are the kinds of people that the Sanctuary needs."
I'll be there.

The waitress brought Cassie's breakfast, setting it in front of her. Cassie thanked the woman before she picked up the fork.
