[Abby has been AWOL for days - creeping into her room late at night and being quite secretive about it all. But the silence has been broken! One each phone, picture and sound of Abby can be seen and heard, respectively. The screens aren't great for viewing streaming video, but damnit, she's excited ( Read more... )

[Shane looks down at his phone and nearly jumps a mile at the girl talking a mile a minute in there. He stares, blinking a few times as he processes it.]

How the hell'd you pull all that off?

[Oh, and he's jealous.]

[Abby grins at her newest response.]

Long version or short n' sweet?

Everythin' you've got.

[So jealous. What'd she get a whole lab for?!]

[Abby takes a big breath and begins to ramble off about how she used her wifi to hack into the nearest cell tower, created a streaming connection, and utilized the city-wide call system to re-route the connection to all working cell phones in the city.]

...and that about covers it. Took me a few days. And I -think- I fried my phone in the process...

[Shane listens to all this with a frown and a nod, his brain spinning it all together and processing accordingly.]

Jesus christ.

[It just seems to fit the moment.]

[Abby grins, knowing that he gets it.]

Hey, it was fun! If you wanna check it out, you can come over to the lab.

[She describes roughly where it is in the city.] Door's unlocked!

[Shane lights up on the spot over the idea of being around a computer again, and nods, even though he's not a hundred percent sure he has any idea where Abby actually is. He'll figure it out.]

Gimmie a bit, okay? I'll see you soon.

[She grins and bops around the lab, happy to have a guest.]

Shane grinned and closed the connection, stuffing his phone into his pocket. A computer. It was like a kid at Christmas. Because there was a computer. Sure, it made him feel like a sad and strange addict, just a little, but there was a computer.

He took off out of the hotel and did his best to follow the directions Abby had passed on. Once or twice he got turned around, but a couple of landmarks later he'd finally hit on it. Thankfully, the city wasn't quite that big. Getting lost would've made him feel that much sadder.

Walking inside, Shane observed the lab equipment from a distance originally. This stuff, he'd never seen before. It was all interesting, but some of it looked strange as hell too. "Jesus." He muttered under his breath, glancing around. Then he raised his voice some. "... Abby?"

Abby was bopping around her lab while Shane found his way over. She was grateful for the company, honestly. The music was pretty loud, so it took her a minute to realize that anyone was in her lab. She was turning to grab for her Caf Pow when she spotted him.

"Hey!" Abby's grin couldn't have possibly been any bigger. "Welcome to the lab. Make yourself at home." She knew that even for the technologically savvy, forensics equipment could look downright hinky. "Look, touch, but please don't break. I'm not sure where I'd find a repair guy up here."

"Probably nowhere." Although he might be able to work something out, but Shane didn't really want to test that theory. He'd feel guilty as hell if he couldn't make it work. "And thanks, seriously." He let his eyes roam back to the lab, grinning.

It was only then he actually remembered his manners. Shane snapped out of it, holding out a hand to her with mild embarrassment. "Sorry. Shane Gannon. Probably should've said that from the getgo."

"Abby Sciuto." She grabbed his hand and shook it firmly. "So, Shane - would you like the grand tour?" It really didn't matter what he said, because the words were just barely out of her mouth when she was grabbing his arm and dragging him around.

"This is my office. This is the big screen. Thiiiis is my lab set up. Thiiis..." She rambled off a list of machines, pointing each one out. All in all, there were about four set ups that looked like a basic computer, though each were tweaked for a specific task. She turned and put her hands on her hips. "You like you want to play." She knew the look of a techy. It was like watching a kid in a candy store, and it made her smile.

Shane stumbled some as he followed after Abby, a little dazed as it all flew around him. Really, it was just nice being around technology that he understood. Instead of something that wouldn't talk to him. So to speak.

When she'd finally settled, he found himself blinking at her stupidly. Then his eyes flicked over to the computer. "... I do." He admitted, embarrassed at how obvious he was. "Sorry, just... Christ." He went over to the computer, shaking his head.

"This is amazin'." He said over his shoulder, and Shane tenuously struck a few keys, bringing the cell phone network back up so he could get a look at it. "Anythin' else you been able to get into? Somethin' that networks out, maybe?"

Abby didn't stop him when he started to poke around. She could sort of tell when a person knew what they were doing. It was like a smell - Scent of Geek. And he had it, for sure. She grabbed a chair and kicked back while he learned his way around her system.

"Got to the cell phones, but it took me almost a week. Only just got it to work correctly today. It was my celebratory message you caught back there. But I'm open to suggestions on where to go from here."

"I'm not sure. Honestly, since I don't want to fry anythin', I'm not sure how far to run with this." If the computer exploded just because their captors were in a spiteful mood, he'd be horrified. Although, now he was resolved to start hunting to see if there was anything else like this around.

Or at least approaching this good. "Network just seems to run the length of the city." He continued to type, curious now. "Whatever tower you were bouncin' off of's only got so much power in it. Which I'd figure, obviously, is purpose. I'd think you'd have to kick it up a few notches before we could send anythin' out." He started hunting for some form of wifi.

Abby slid up beside Shane, at the computer on the other side of the table, and began to open up a few programs, pulling up a map of the city that she'd scanned from a book in the library.

"My guess is that the tower's here." She pointed to a large fixture in the center of town. "I think it's a temple. You know, the 'gods' that brought us here? I haven't been inside the place - have you?"

[ooc: making shit up as I go? Can fix if needed.]
