The Day of MLK

Jan 18, 2010 11:29

It's Martin Luther King Day, and my manager has decreed that we must work. The school is closed, but admissions doesn't have the day off, even though admissions has almost nothing to do on bank holidays. Well, fooey.

But it's only a half day. She scheduled things so that only half the department is in for half the day, and then we can take a half day later in the week. Okay. It's just that I have an appointment Thursday morning, so the most logical half day I can take is Thursday morning. And said appointment is in Woodbury (where I work), so I'm stuck in Woodbury with nothing to do for three to four hours. Wow. What a great way to spend a half day. I might just hole up in a coffee shop and read.

Wait. I could buy a new deadbolt lock for my back door. It suddenly stopped working. The inner core came loose and now the entire thing rotates with the key. There's probably something else at Home Depot I need, there always is. So maybe I'll just bum around Home Depot for the morning.

I'm sure it seems like all I blog about these days is mice, and alas, this post is no different. The mice eradication is simultaneously getting better and worse. They're clearly chowing down on the poison, although I haven't seen any carcasses, which is worrying. I haven't had a mouse siting in quite a while. On the other hand, there is evidence that they are crawling up onto my desk and having little mouse frat parties. The paper in my printer got all chewed up. And the fringe on the throw rugs in my kitchen is also all chewed off. Are these evidence of mouse death throes? I can only hope.

Six Ring resumes on Tuesday. I'll be debuting with El Niño. You should come.

What else? I went to ethel and setharoo's housewarming/joint birthday party. I gave up on trying to hack the ice off of my sidewalk, and got surprised by a hippie unicyclist while doing so (yes really). I voted in the CONvergence/MISFITs elections for the first time. I'm glad the Vikings pounded the holy hell out of the Cowboys (my least favorite team in professional sports). I ignored the Golden Globes on all levels. I played Batman: Arkham Asylum way too much. I saw Improv-A-Go-Go. I had some conversation I needed to have. It was a weekend.

parties, i hate my job, improv, homeowner
