Roald Amundsen Leaves The Antarctic

Dec 23, 2008 21:44

Basically spending the evening packing, trying to remember everything I need to remember. It took me a couple of hours just to find my little carry on bag, which is a bad sign. Also trying to clean up a bit. I hate coming back to a dump.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I hate it when people complain about the weather. But damn it, I want to get to Jacksonville. It's been so steadily dreary for the past couple of weeks. Sub-zero most days, and I've spent four (or maybe five, it blurs together) evenings out of the past week shoveling snow. In previous years, when I've spent Christmas at my brother's, Jacksonville was maybe about 50 and rainy, while Minneapolis was around 30. So there wasn't that much of a spread. But this year, Jax is supposed to be in the 70s, while we're in the teens. That's going to be almost a shock.

I keep checking the weather forecasts for Minneapolis and for Detroit, where I'm switching planes. I've experienced bad delays before, but never due to weather. They've always been due to mechanical problems, or staff out sick, or dumbshits getting pissed off and threatening to shoot someone. Getting snowed up in Detroit sounds rather hell-like. I'm trying to think positive.

Hope everyone likes what I got them. Present selection gets a little harder every year.

the holidays, jacksonville
