Employment

My current temp job ends on January 14th, but it looks like I'll be starting a new one on the 17th. Pending a review of my resume, I'll be back at Amex, typing random strings of numbers and letters in some capacity. Pay will be slightly less than what I'm making now, but not so much so that I feel screwed from the get go.

I don't feel huge relief at this development, but I don't feel all glum and "here we go again" about it either.

revdj is inviting people to a read and review challenge. 25 books in the year '05. I haven't committed to it yet, and maybe that's a good thing, since the book I've currently chosen to read is The Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove. Turtledove is considered the big kahuna of the alternative history genre, and I like alt history, but this book is not grabbing me. There's no sense of pacing. His prose is really lugubrious, he gets so preoccuppied with historical detail that he forgets to give anyone a personality. Except through some really infodumpy, expository narration. This is going to take a while to get through.

Contemplating another beer. Hmm. Must mull this over carefully.
