Unusually busy day today. Which was, naturally, preceeded by an awful night of insomnia. I got up at 1:30, stayed up until 3:30, and got up again at 7:00. I had an intense headache for a few minutes, but it went away startlingly quickly and I was fine.
I got to Kinko's in adequate time (had to wait a few for a particularly boneheaded individual who was using the downtown location's only color copier for some dumb black and white job, sheesh), and got my mini-book assembled. I then hung around the Martin/Williams ad agency for a while, waiting for my old teech to remember he was spacing off our appointment.
It was actually really cool. He brought in a couple other writers to look at my stuff, and they seemed to like it more than the ex-teech did. And I found out my old interactive writing teacher was at M/W now. She looked at it, and liked it even more than the other three.
We had a nice talk. The interactive teacher was probably the most honored person in her field locally, if not the country. She's got armloads of golds. And for some reason she really liked my stuff in class. And... oh hell, I think she's hot. Now, an interactive creative is not the same thing as an advertising creative. But her comments were a boost I despirately needed.
One thing that really stumped me: The interactive writing teacher has gotten out of the interactive game, and is now in information architecture. She just walked away from a degree of professional success I can't imagine. Dang.
Some bumming around downtown, then a Taco John's meal. That will probably be the extent of my entertainment expenditures for the foreseeable future.
I signed up at Jeanne Thorne for more temp work, wrestling with their kloogy, freezing testing computers the whole time. They have nothing right now. big shock there. When I got home, there was a message from Kelly on my machine. After some phone tag, I found out it was for some mail room type job that was four bucks an hour less than what I was making, and that it was already filled. This is getting off-pissing.
More of the same tomorrow, minus the cool portfolio comments of course.
