Still Alive!

Hey everyone!

Just got back from Nikko last night! It was pretty cool, we just got to visit a historical recreation of a pre Colonel Perry city! There was an interactive standup comedy theater that we were able to visit. They got one of our classmates to be a part of the show. It was funny, since he spoke little Japanese, the director had to whisper lines to him. Afterwards, I was told that our teacher and some of the other classmates were all pointing for them to select him.

Afterwards I visited the Ninja Maze (it was set up to be a little haunted house-ey except that the only time I got lost was when I got to the room that was designed so that the door looked like part of the wall, and when I found it, I was half-convinced I was walking into the utility closet.) Afterwards we visited the real horror house, and the part that scared me was the other person who was also visiting the haunted house and whom I almost walked into.

But I got to see the Mysterious Ninja House too! It was built so that everything was at an angle, and you automatically try to adjust yourself, only when you do you're off balance so you fall over. I found myself developing a deep emotional bond with people who have to walk home at nigth drunk.

Afterwards my classmates and I were teamed up with a group of Graphic Design Students, and there were enough of them that for three of them there were one of us. Mine couldn't speak English at all, so I had to comunicate to them in Japanese only. While it really helped me practice, It was kind of wiered, because they all pointed to different parts of the ground and were saying something like, "There's a dead person under here." We were visiting Tokugawa Ieyasu's monument that theoretically housed his tomb at the time, but from listening to them, a good ten other people were also buried there.

Wow, did I have fun the weekend though! We went and visited Tokyo Tower! It's really tall, and through the elevator we rode up, we could see the way the tower was built. The same goes for the observation deck. There was this wierd terminal on all 4 sides of the tower where this pink condom-like thing would show a replica of the city in good weather, at night, and point out the interesting landmarks. Apparently, I could have seen the Imperial Palace from there, except for all the trees in the way. But the giant grove helped me figure out exactly where it was. Also, I should have seen Mt. Fuji, except for the clouds in the way.

Also, earlier in the week, we went to Tokyo Disneyland. We had to go after 6 to get the discount, which only gave us four hours to work with until closing, but wow! We were able to go on 9 major rides before we ran out of time!

Well, got to go now! Much Studing to do!
