Unusual Sponsors
As many of you know I spend much of my life in doctor's surgeries (due to work rather than ill health) and yesterday I was bimbling 'round the consulting rooms of a practice in Burton-upon-Trent and noticed one of those little "block" calendars where you tear a sheet off for each day to reveal a pithy quote or piece of worldly wisdom. These are standard freebie fare and normally have a company name emblazoned on the backplate and this one was no exception...
"Bloggs and Sons - Family Undertakers" (name changed to protect my useless memory)
The fact that you might want an undertaker for your whole family aside I was amazed that a doctor would have this on her desk in full view of her patients. I mean, you could imagine the scene "I'm sorry Mr Smith, but you've only got six months. Might I recommend...?"!!
In other news you may have gathered by the lack of NaNo spam that I crashed and burned at 10,000 words this year. This was partly due to being uninspired by my own story, but more due to the fact that one evening I had a couple of hours free and had to choose between a few hundred words or putting some doors on our kitchen cupboards. In the interest of completing the damn kitchen before Christmas DIY has taken precedence over WIY - next year I'll be back in the saddle.
Oh and in case anyone missed e-mails and Facebook notifications we're having a party at the Crescent for New Year - hope to see some of you here!
