So back to Professional Development (hack) today.

Every teacher's favorite thing. OK, sometimes you learn some useful stuff? But mostly not. However, it's a way to justify paying you for the day, and in the afternoon you get to work on getting your room set up.

OK, so I teach high school, which means I don't have to do nearly anything compared to elementary as far as getting my room gussied up. But what I have to do is this.

Move furniture. They cleaned carpet over the summer (thank God) but I have to move everything back the way I want it. Desks have to be rearranged in groups and numbers taped on each. Cause when they walk in Mon, I ask them their name and give them a number. That's where they go. (I am absolutely a visual learner. Long as I have a seating chart and can continue to associate a name and a face for a week or two, I will learn 200 kids' names within a couple of weeks. Just don't tell me your name. kid, cause it ain't ever gonna stick.)

Old stuff comes off the wall, new stuff goes up. Fortunately, I came in throughout the summer, so I have all my copies for the first two weeks done, and the next two weeks are set to go. I'll need that, since I'll have no TAs for at least 3 weeks, and the kids enrolled will be changing on a daily basis for at least a month.

There's more tomorrow, and then we have Friday off. And next week it's for realz.
