I think one of my podcasts just sliiiiid right past early filking history!

This episode of 99% Invisible briefly mentions rooms of people singing at science fiction conventions.

I may have squeaked on public transportation.

They didn't use the word filk, but I KNEW. And then they played a clip and I REALLY KNEW.

I'm old enough to remember filking at the Star Trek conventions back in the early 80s.

And it wasn't just in convention rooms - it was in the corridors, in the lobbies, and spilling drunkenly out of hotel rooms late at night.

Oh godd, I miss the old-fashion Star Trek conventions.

I get the impressions filk-based cons still have a lot of that these days, but I admit I haven't been to any. :)

(Or...Star Trek conventions. Although I'm starting to explore smaller SF-lit cons!)
