Last Year, Next Year, Fandoms, Me.

The first post I ever made on livejournal was typed on the family computer as I watched the ball drop in New York City. So the new years really does make me automatically reflect on my relationship with livejournal and fandom.

I started this journal to be a blog, my blog, to play around with and babble in and whatnot. From the very beginning it was tied to fandom (this is the same username as my fanfiction.net account. Um, don't go there.) but it wasn't until later that I made the decision for this be a mostly fandom blog. I've failed at that recently, but I've been far more involved in internet fandom life, so it's probably a wash.

Over the last year I told an internship interview about this blog, swore to never ever do that again ever, watched the vast majority of the Terminator franchise, watched some more Original Star Trek, read more Marvel comics, gotten into and consumed Doctor Who and Torchwood, wavered in and out of DC Comics (as is the norm), saw some films and TV shows.

I slowed waaaay down on my comic collecting, partly because of increased frustration with the publishers, partly out of money/time issues. I'm a wait-for-trader who frequently forgets to pick up the trades. But I do keep tabs on the news, and I tend to throw in a trade whenever I made an online book order. My to-buy trade list is considerable. In terms of manga, I'm basically trying to finish the volumes of Swan that came out (thanks for discontinuing your manga line, DC. /sarcasm), picking up Fullmetal Alchemist and Akira.

I've never been as involved in a fandom as I am in Torchwood right now. I've joined a few communities for other stuff, and I had a while where I friended a bunch of people in the DC comics fandom. Then I dropped off the internet for a while (note: no posts in 2008. NONE.) and I dropped everyone when I came back and started, "fresh." But I'm meeting some awesome people and making friends and just writing and writing and writing.

I tend to not drop old fandoms, just waver in and out. I would like to catch up on a bunch of the DC animated shows out there, and I can't wait for the Captain America movie. Can't. Wait.

For this new year, I have the same resolutions as always. Exercise more, eat healthier, don't procrastinate as much, etc. But this year I want to commit to some sort of non-college writing every day. It can be a post, it can be fanfiction, it can be something totally different. Every day, at some point, I am going to try to sit down and write something for me. Let's see how it goes.

In a somewhat related announcement, I have finally collected all of the Harry Potter fanfics I wrote for the 30_hath community. Hey anglophile09, remember when I was writing those? Anyway, I've put the full collection over at my Dreamwidth here. They were written years ago, and some of them have some awkward writing, but I do recommend them if you read Harry Potter fic. They're all fairly short. I'm particularly proud of Crown Jewels, as I'm not much for lush descriptions, and I like what I did with the prompt.

Anyway, I'm a few days late, but happy new year everybody. Welcome to the second year of the second decade of the millennium.
