Copic Practice Requests
Erk, finally getting around to posting these. They've all been finished for well over a week (closer to two, I think), and the only excuse I have is laziness. That, and it seems whenever I DO remember that I should post them, it's a weekend, and since some people only read lj at work (and thus not on weekends), and I didn't want anyone who requested something to miss it, I put it off. Ohyes, lazy noble me. XD
Anyway! Artses!
So first! The requests, in the order I got them:
Kusuri-uri/Golden Self, for fadedfeathers . I didn't marker this one, because frankly, the idea scared me, and also because I want to do it digitally. The thing about Mononoke is, it's so damn beautiful all on its own that you either decide you're unworthy to do fanart for it, or if you do, you want it to be as gorgeous as you can manage. I was in the first camp until this sketch happened (thank you Sarah!), and now I'm in the second.
An OC, for ckoanime , based on his artwork Band Face. I had the most trouble, but also some of the most fun, on this one. I tried several times to come up with something based on the second sketch from the right, and failed several times, before this one glared at me long enough to draw him. I also tried to do something actiony and failed miserably, so I apologize for the by-now expectable-from-me pinup-yness, but I do like how the coloring turned out. |D
Naruto and Sakura, for kait1114 . I actually really like this pairing. I mean, okay, so Sakura was a real pain in the pre-Shippuuden stuff. But she's gotten cooler now, and Naruto's only been in love with her forever. As the main character (whatever Sasuke fans may say), I think he oughta get the girl he likes.
Sakura: *shoves him against wall, breaks a couple bones* "And now I'm gonna kiss you, dangit!"
Naruto: *smart enough not to fight back, even if he wanted to, which he emphatically doesn't* "Bring it on, baby!"
Kakashi and Iruka, for kansouame . I know I know, she also requested Hakkai and Gojyo, and anybody who knows me well enough, if you were here you would probably be feeling my forehead right now just to see if I'm really okay. But, uh, my excuse is that I've never drawn this pairing, and I liked the idea of doing something cute with Kakashi's mask. Uhh, yeah. XD
Another OC, Felan, for shadrach_anki . After asking her for details about him, I realized that I have, in fact, drawn him before - she was one of my very first commissioners. ♥ ♥ And guess what? I STILL can't draw a wolf to save my life. |D
Kenren for theemdash, even though I said I was capping the requests at five. I'll use that as my excuse for not having him colored. That and the fact that Minekura's style is bloody hard to imitate, and I don't want to half-ass it. I like to think he's leaning on Tenpou's desk. XD Where interesting things take place, no doubt.
And second! Non-requests, but marker practice nonetheless, hence their inclusion. :D
Rain, from Immortal Rain / Meteor Methuselah. Technically, he's actually the first thing I did with copics, because I love him so, and couldn't resist. And he has a cheek sparkle because HE IS A PRETTY PRETTY PINK-HAIRED BOY IN A SHOUJO MANGA 'KAY.
Shigure from Fruits Basket, for velvedere , because she likes him, and that is a plenty good enough reason for me. XD
All in all, I'm a little more comfortable with copics now, though I still feel like a n00b, and have yet to figure out how on earth Minekura does what she does with them. I want to blame it on not having a few key warm, light neutrals, like warm greys and a pale yellow-brown (yanno, whatever that color is that MK uses to shade stuff like Sanzo's robes), but I think that's just me being a cop-out. I do really enjoy them, though, and am looking forward to using them for quickies at cons and such. SOOOO much simpler than breaking out the watercolors. :D
