This evening, I decided I needed some exercise, so I got on my bike and took the most obvious path from where I live. Down across the railway tracks, along the waterfront to the finally-complete bike trail through the
Olympic Sculpture Park, and onwards. From the Sculpture Park on there's about 4 miles of flat, smooth, separated-from-traffic trail, mostly along the waterfront, out to
Smith Cove Marina. It may be flat, but it's separated not only from cars but also from foot traffic along most of the way, so I could go as fast I liked, which is not as fast I'd like it to be just yet.
Anyway, the way out was pleasant enough, but it was the way back that really made the day. After a brief stop to take in the view of the sun setting over the
Olympics, from the marina, I turned back and had the sun behind me. For 15 minutes I pedalled while watching
Downtown and Belltown glowing in the warm light of dusk,
Rainier looming in the distance, and taking in the smell of the sea. Who wouldn't want to stay here?
