Several months ago, B told me that when our lease is up Aug 31, not that she's no longer in school, she'd be moving in with her bf Michael. That in itself was a bummer, cuz B has been the best roommate I've ever had. And since I can't afford this place on my own, I had to make a plan for where I'd live come Sept. I felt like living with B kinda spoiled me for other roommates, so the plan was find a place on my own. Then I considered the $ situation, and decided maybe its time to stop throwing rent money away into empty space, and buy a place. One night at dinner in passing, my Dad says, 'you could buy a multi-family and rent the rest.' The more I thought about it, the better the idea sounded.

So that was the plan, and the search began.

It took a long time of looking at utter crap, and places I couldnt afford to find one where the numbers worked, where the rent plus my income was enough to pay the mortgage and live off, and that didn't look like a dump.

It was nice, but they wanted a lot more than it looked like it was worth. We low-balled them, and worked our way to a fairly decent price, and the condition that we could go through it with a Town Inspector, and a building inspector. They didn't like it at all, but they really didn't have much choice. Ironically the Town Inspector, which they were the most against, found nothing major. The other one found tons. Powder post beetle damage to support beams in the basement, electrical problems, shifts in the foundation, problems with the roof.

So we re-offered minus the amount we estimated to fix it. They said they wouldnt budge any more on price. Whole thing falls through. And now I'm out of time to buy a place by Sept. 1, let alone if I could find one. And there's nothing out there. I've seen the same crappy listings now as I saw and looked at when I first started this process.

On the same day the Universe told me that I wasn't buying that house, it told me that Denny and Bernadette both needed a place to live immediately, and that my landlord, who was really bummed when I told him I was leaving in the first place, hadn't rented my place to anyone yet.

The Universe told me to stay in this apt in Waltham with my 2 new roommates, til I find the right place to buy. So really, who am I to argue with it?
