Leaving for Idaho Thursday morning for 9 days. Thinking I want some interesting stuff to read. Anyone coming to the preshow meeting want to lend me something good?

Looking particularly at Peaches, Bethany, and Jimmy. Im extra curious to see what you'd pick.

cute easy read if you like fantasy, Howls Moving Castle, but may be too much of a gily book and I lent mine out but I can loan you Anne McCafrey's Dragon series books 1 through 3.

Hey did you ever give Diana the stuff I gave you?

You probably already read it, but Karla's photo project inspired me to get Haunted by Chuck Pal...(can't spell his name without looking at it). I'm in the middle of reading a book right now, and even though I bought Haunted to start when I was finished with this one, I wouldn't mind going out and getting the second choice boo, The Unbearable Lightness of Being and wait to read Haunted. At least I have it now. Lemme know, and I'll bring it to the meeting. Course, I have lots of other books as well, I just finished Wicked, it was really good and enlightening in terms of Oz.

yeah, after her project I got curious about Haunted. That'd be great. Unbearable Lightness is a great book too. If my books weren't still in boxes (no shelves yet) I'd re-visit it.

Thx

Haunted is fun, quirky and mindless. I love Chuck Palahniuk for his nihilistic, sardonic style, but my warning is that his writing can be almost annoyingly predictable and trite. At any rate, I'd definitely recommend checking it out considering you wanted to read it anyway and Mali's willing to let you borrow it. =) If I were coming to pre-show meeting I'd definitely bring some stuff for you to look through, but alas I am in NH.

That does, however, mean that I will be doing lots of my own reading over break. I'm on Disgrace now by J.M. Coetzee and next I think I'll do Nabokov's Lolita. Any recommendations for me? (I've been meaning to get into Ayn Rand, Murakami, Doestoevsky.) I'm definitely open to any of your suggestions.

The book I want to recommend to you is Satan, His Psychotherapy and Cure by the Unfortunate Dr. Kassler, J.S.P.S., which I think you'd love. But I have it lent out and can't get it back in time.

Two other books that come to mind: under fiction, twisted, depressing, The Elementary Particles by Michel Houellebecq; and under essay collections, thought-provoking, on sex, Talk Dirty to Me by Sallie Tisdale. I learned about the Elementary Particles from Bethany, but ended up liking it much more than she did.

Out of town! I'll owe you a book-on-loan. What are some of your favorites?

Stranger In A Strange Land (Heinlein), Jitterbug Perfume (Robbins), and Unbearable Lightness are probably the ones that stand out the most for me.
