holy week

Thanks for the nudge Nai. It's been quite sometime since I updated my LJ. Well, most of it is political anyway and these days, there seems to be no end to the crisis here in the country. Suffice to say that the sitting one in the Pasig Office is in there for the long haul. How long? Until all of them will be grey and old.

But it is the Holy Week and I hope that the leaders ponder on some questions on how they run the country and the perceptions of the people ( whether pro or con ) on how they rate their leaders for the last several years. It's just too bad that the saying: "The Road to Hell is paved with promises"...and too much expectations.

A friend once asked me that the people are getting tired of people power and that they want a respite from these extra legal moves to unseat a President. Well, I told him, "You put her there. Now take her out yourselves!". The sad fact is that once one has tasted power--and lot's of it -- it will take much effort to shake it off from your system. Add the fact that a lot of other people depend on your continuous hold to survive will even make it harder to let go.

What I see in the future is more instability and bickering in the political arena. In the meantime, people have to survive their own battles with live - where to get the next meal, tuition ni ate at kya, pagkain at gatas ni baby, electrical bills, renta ng bahay at wala nang pera para sa bagong damit, gamit at bakasyon.

Bakasyon? It is not to be equated with the way the Germans spend their summer and winter vacations. Which is paid and usually spent thousands of kilometers away from their fireplace in Frankfurt or Hamburg. Here "bakasyon" is not a paid vacation and the nearest one can go is about a 200 km radius from where you are. Forget Boracay, Club Noah or Bohol Beach Club. Settle for the nearest public swimming pool in Manila East Road in Rizal or the beaches of Naic, Cavite.

When I was in the DOT ages ago, I use to remember that we encouraged domestic tourism and not only inbound tourists on tour buses. Well, I myself did not even have the chance to visit Boracay which we promoted in Europe in the early 80's! Jens Peters, a German, out up one of the first books about Boracay for backpackers.

So maybe, I should go there once sand for all. With all the kids , the missus and finally see what the buzz is all about!

Maybe next year?
