From afar I can make out the twinkling of the lights that mark my return. They're the same ones that illuminated long hours of sorrow with their pale reflections. And although I didn't want to regress, everyone always goes back to their first love. The old street where the echo said, "His life is yours, his desire is yours," beneath the mocking gaze of the stars that today, indifferent, watch me come back.
To come back, with my forehead wrinkled, the snows of time have silvered my brow. To feel that life is only a sigh, that twenty years is nothing, that my feverish gaze wanders through the shadows, searches for you, and calls out your name. To live, with my soul bound to a sweet memory that I lament yet again.
I'm afraid of the encounter with the past, that comes back to face my life. I'm afraid of the memory filled nights that enchain my dreams. But the fleeing traveler sooner or later must slow their pace. And although forgetfulness-that destroys everything-has killed my old illusions, I still keep one hidden, humble hope, which is all the treasure of my heart.

"Yo adivino el parpadeo
de las luces que a lo lejos
van marcando mi retorno.
Son las mismas que alumbraron
con sus palidos reflejos
hondas horas de dolor.
Y aunque no quise el regreso,
siempre se vuelve al primer amor.
La vieja calle donde el eco dijo
"Tuya es su vida, tuyo es su querer,"
bajo el burlón mirar de las estrellas
que con indiferencia
hoy me ven volver.

Volver,
con la frente marchita
las nieves del tiempo platearon mi sien.
Sentir,
que es un soplo la vida,
que veinte años no es nada,
que febril la mirada
errante en las sombras
te busca y te nombra.
Vivir,
con el alma aferrada
a un dulce recuerdo
que lloro otra vez.

Tengo miedo del encuentro
con el pasado que vuelve
a enfrentarse con mi vida.
Tengo miedo de las noches que,
pobladas de recuerdos,
encadenen mi soñar.
Pero el viajero que huye
tarde o temprano detiene su andar.
Y aunque el olvido-
que todo lo destruye-
haya matado mi vieja ilusión,
guardo escondida una esperanza humilde
que es toda la fortuna
de mi corazón."
