I wish people would keep their dogs within the safety of a fenced-in backyard. I understand dogs are cunning sons of bitches (pun intended), but it's not difficult to make sure your dog is safely cooped up.

I got followed by a sweet-natured hound dog mix for about a mile today, and I managed to get him off my trail somewhat close to where I found him, but I'm still worried about him. It's already 90 degrees, and it's going to get hotter. Not to mention the traffic... I hope he sniffed out his way home.

And I'm pretty sure the border collie that trailed me for a few blocks wasn't far from his/her place (even then, it has a collar and tags). Still again, it's going to be too hot for man or beast soon.

I hate putting on my "GIT!" voice, because they give me a look like I hurt their feelings (and I probably did). I've joked about leash-training JJ to come along with me... That'd cause as many problems as it would solve, I'm afraid.

Ah well, I gotta think positive. Both dogs are at home, lapping up water and maybe finding a cool spot to sleep through the hottest of the day. We should all be so lucky.

Andy and I renewed our library cards yesterday. I took the opportunity to find some cookbooks. I'm going to attempt to reduce our grocery store bill by about one-fourth.

One of the books - $3 Meals - has a vegetarian section so I don't have to get creative with the meat replacements. So this is doable.

I'll take one of them to work with me and make notes so I can go shopping tomorrow. Between those recipes, the weekly sales ad, and coupons, I should be able to feed us all on the cheap. (Even if Mickie is a picky eater.)

Mom nearly had a car catastrophe. Her engine wouldn't shut off on Tuesday.

She had a brainstorm, found Dad's set of keys, and used them. Ta-Da! Problem solved.

People of the f'list that are more car-savvy than me: do keys lose their usefulness?

And with that, I'm going to go prep for the day.
