Fireworks on the 10th of July: a recap

Jul 11, 2010 16:37

- Got our usual spot - right in front of the orchestra.

- Saw two brothers that I used to watch at the day care. The younger was my Little Buddy - he was army-crawling when last I saw him, and now he's walking. Holy cats.

- Not too far from us were two dogs, so of course Mickie and I had to make new friends.

- An American Symphony from Mr. Holland's Opus still makes something get in my eyes. Every damn time.

- The first piece of music played in sync with the fireworks was a Barry Manilow mash-up. You'd be surprised how well it worked.

- Also, Ravel's Bolero. Just one go-round. Not as wonderfully ostentatious as most recordings I've heard, but good enough. One of my favorite pieces of music, because it was also one of the first to use saxophones.

- From the Good Timing Dept: during Stars and Stripes Forever, at the beginning of the trio - when most of us are singing "be kind to your web-footed friends..." under our breaths - a flock of about 100 Canadian geese swam over to our side of the pond. They were trying to get away from the pyrotechnics, but I think they were acting like it was all planned.

What is it about the Mart of Wals that you walk out with more than you needed?

We got some things to make the bathroom look halfway presentable, but we also walked out with a copy of The Shawshank Redemption and a body pillow. (Also known as a boyfriend pillow. I've heard it called a bitch-pillow, but I don't like that.)

Okay. Maybe at least one of those two things are more 'needed' than I'm letting on...

And I got flirted with. Big time. He looked to be all of a year and a half. And a future heartbreaker to boot. Go get 'em kid.

Grandma and Grandpa appreciated the meatloaf.

Grandma called me a "sweet girl" and hugged me. Twice. I think she's having a good day, at least up to that point. But it made me the slightest bit wibbly.

I wonder if she knows she's in Another World. I kinda hope not. She seems happy there, at least.
