Mom called early-ish this morning. (I was still in my PJs.) Grandpa (her dad, full blood Czech, and stubborn as a mule) was getting sicker and complaining more about pains in his right side (he has/had a hernia, but the fever and vomiting also mimicked appendicitis), and my aunts were going to take him to the hospital, and Grandma needed to be taken to the hairdressers and kept company, and Mom sounded stressed...
So Mickie and I went to spend a few hours with Grandma and help out with lunch and wait for news on Grandpa. Remember, Grandma has mild dementia and is hard of hearing. We were answering the same questions several times at the top of our voices. Mickie was good - she loves Grandma, and Grandma seems to be a bit sharper when Mickie is around.
Grandpa, by the way, is currently in surgery for his hernia, which has gotten the rest of his intestines involved and is causing an infection of sorts.
So I'm trying to get caught up on some housework, but my head is starting to hurt (can't imagine why). I did manage to clean under the couch cushions (ewwwww!) and vacuum the front room, get dishes in the machine, and get two loads washed (one is in the dryer). I think if I get the loveseat cleaned and arranged tonight, everything else can wait until tomorrow when Andy is off.
I think I'm going to have that one last glass of wine and lay down for a bit. I'm waiting for news on Grandpa, which will probably be good (other than diabetes, he's in really good shape, which means he'll be out of surgery before five and out of the hospital by Monday). Still, he's 79 - no spring chicken.
So, damper on the long weekend, but nothing horrible.
