Earlier today at work, i had a free moment to check the news headlines at Yahoo.com (they don't block that site...yet).
One of the headlines read "Gas at $4 brings promises, pandering. It was written by Tom Raum of the AP.
The story goes on to compare and contrast what Presidental Candidates John McCain and Barack Obama have in store to save us from the high price of energy. The story assumes they have a plan. The fucking Cylons had a plan. These two have empty fucking promises that will never come to the light of day. Their plan is to fail, and the citizens of the country will continue to get ass raped from the cost of fuel.
Here are the two sides (and I am quoting here from the story)
McCain
"McCain is offering a summer break from the 18.4-cent federal gasoline tax, and holding out the promise of more offshore drilling to help you drive more cheaply to the beach. He wants to build 45 new nuclear reactors to generate electricity. On Monday, he proposed a $300 million government prize to anyone who can develop a superior battery to power cars of the future.
He may even wash your windows."
First of all, we need a price break NOW. His "plan" wouldn't take effect until he was elected, and when/if the senate and house vote to pass it through to law. Bush has suggested the same thing (I think) and failed. He blames the failure on the part of "those crazy minded liberals who can't see the light of day." I am quoting from my own self rightious opinions.
Just because he "wants to build 45 new nuclear reactors" doesn't mean a damn one is going to be built. Bush said that the future of energy needs for America lies, in part, in Nuclear power. Has the Us built any? Fuck no, not a single one in over two fucking decades. Gee, there's more fucking people living in this country, and we need more electricity than ever before, but we don't wanna pay more to get it...
Even if such facilities were to get the OK and move ahead, how fucking long do you think it will take, from going through all the red tape, to finally starting up the damn things? YEARS.
McCain has no quick fix. And the wall street investors just keep buying oil, cause they don't give a fuck about anyone else. Keep the money safe so nobody else can use it for anything.
Obama
Obama (Oprah's claim to be the second coming of Jesus himself) has this to say...
"If you pull into the Obama station, he'll promise you cash back from the windfall-profits tax he plans to slap on Big Oil. Check the tires? How about promises to go after oil-market speculators who help drive up prices as well as big subsidies for solar, wind, ethanol and other alternative-energy projects? The Illinois senator likens his energy package to the Kennedy-era space program."
Ok, so Obama plans to slap the wrists of Big Oil by putting new taxes on them. Hmmm, once again we're stuck with the Senate and House debating over this issue. But wait, what do you think big oil is spending all their billions of massive profit on? Finding more oil? Making gasoline last longer?
Get your head out of your ass Dorothy, it's all going to the lobbyists to get into the Congress's pants to keep buying oil. (I have no solid proof of this, merely the rantings of a mad man.)
Obama wants to go after oil speculators? The GOP will hate that idea. Many conservatives will see that as the government getting into the way of business. I don't remember a lot about my US government class (Sorry Dr. Weed), but I thought the Republican party stood for a smaller government, and allowing the businesses to control themselves (i.e. Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, WCW, KMart, WCW).
No matter what the fuckers say in Washington, we're the ones getting ass raped by high energy prices. I like my energy. It keeps my PC running, my light on so I can see what I am typing, my TV on so I can listen to the Daily Show while typing, and my AC on so I can sleep at night (fuck the grand kids).
They're all fucking assholes.
