We watched the new Amazon Prime version of Cinderella tonight, and I think my sister and I enjoyed it more than her kids. It was a musical, yet mostly using existing rock songs, and sis and I were cracking up at some of the choices being so weirdly perfect. The evil stepmother singing "Material Girl" to her daughters to encourage them to find a rich husband, the Prince lamenting loneliness to "Somebody to Love," etc. It was delightful.
There have been times I've thought about writing a Cinderella-based AU fanfic. Nothing has ever quite clicked. I really enjoyed doing Beauty and the Beast, years ago. That was poking at me while watching the show tonight. It has been ages since I wrote a historical-fantasy type AU and they are such fun.
