The June Something
The June Something, Day 19: What is something that you associate with a character in fandom, but aren't sure if it's canon or fandom?
I remember the first time I read a fic which had Xanatos as Qui-Gon's first apprentice who turns to the dark side, and thinking, oh, this is a cool OC and backstory for Qui-Gon. Then I read another one with Xanatos, and assumed they'd 'borrowed' the character from that other author and was that okay? 'Cuz I didn't see anything in the notes thanking the first author. And then another and being just a little...WTF? Then finally started on the Jedi Apprentice novels, and oh! People were pulling book canon into our movie 'verse fics, I get it.
I recently googled 'Bucky Barnes Alpine' because I knew many people think Bucky has a white cat named Alpine but I had no clue why, but kinda thinking I love to write cats, it would be good to know more. So Alpine is comic book canon and I figure fair game, thank you very much wikipedia.
