forever

it's been fucking forever since i've updated this thing. i've wanted to post but am not really sure what to say.

heather and i got married in st. lucia on may 5th (cinco de mayo, esse). it was amazing there and was really hard coming back. we were down there from monday to the following tuesday, so we had the time to do a bunch of excursions. we took a catamaran down to the south of the island and visited the active volcano and botanical gardens, went snorkeling, did a mountain bike ride in the rainforest, deep sea fishing (me and the fathers) and shopping (heather and the mothers). we also took a hobie cat out and i really enjoyed sailing. i'm trying to convince heather to buy a sailboat now, but she is certain i'm crazy.

st. lucia was the kind of place that made you want to sell your stuff, quit your job, and just live somewhere beautiful - fuck all that bullshit we complicate our lives with. did i mention it was really hard to come back? maybe someday...

our company just got bought by a spanish firm. the people who owned us sold us because we were the odd man out in their scheme of things. we are a software company and they weren't; these new people are. people seem pretty upbeat and it's potentially an awesome development. of course, i'm not naive, but things are looking ok - and even if they weren't, they'd still be ok.

work still sucks, but what's new? if things go south with the new company it'll be a decent excuse to get off my ass and change things up (like i really need an excuse, but... inertia). heather and i have talked about moving. we'd like to find a bigger place near here, but housing is insane. we'd rather not have a huge commute, so we've been kicking around the idea of relocating... maybe arizona or something. i dunno. not for a while, though. we have some debt racked up from the wedding/honeymoon, etc.

our fucking washing machine broke about a month before we went to st. lucia. i forgot how much not being able to do laundry in your own house sucks. so i spent $300 to get it repaired and it didn't fix it so we bought new shit. at least i got it with a one year/no interest/no payments deal, which is sweet. we re-tiled our bathroom in the hall. it looks awesome, but we have yet to put up the molding. one tile's corner is popping up, so we may have to redo it, which sucks, but i'm sure it'll go fine (i hope). we went to ikea and redid our living room, too. the couch we had was so big and dirty and made the room basically unusable. we got a small sofabed and two chairs and redid it. it's awesome, but we probably should've held off. such is life... it was a lot of fun to take the saw to the sofa though.

last saturday we went to dc. we were going to go see a drag show with heather's friends, but ended up just eating at an awesome ethiopian joint and then going home. this saturday we'll be going back down to see dave attell. i fully expect to laugh until i pass out.
