The PICC nurse who delivered my fun, new antibiotic before my discharge yesterday told me a few interesting facts about PICC lines. The attitude that the nurses over at Morse Avenue have an "old school" atitude about PICC lines, namely that it is somehow "bad" to draw blood from one.
This nurse said that whenever something foreign is placed in the body, the body starts fighting it. A fibrin sheath forms over the material of the line. Fluid (i.e., antibiotics) can be easily pushed in. Drawing something out, such as blood, is more difficult, as the fibrin can more easily block the opening. (Effectively, it forms a sort of "scab.")
The new antibiotic only needs to be administered once a day, which is great. That three-times-a-day routine was wearing. It's pretty strong. The bugs this latest test found were "gram negative," as opposed to "gram positive." (

The car is really acting funny after its trip to Duncan's Automotive. Not amused. The security system is off. The clock isn't working. The car shudders and lurches under acceleration, none of which it did before we took it in. So...back to the shop on Monday, and here's hoping they are going to be reasonable. Of course, we do plan on complaining to the BBB and AAA (since they are a "AAA approved repair shop") if they are not.
