LOL

You know, as much as I've mocked that interpretation (...and I have) it doesn't seem any less incompatible than the actual ending. Less emotional impact, though. :p

Oh, so you can explain to me the problem with this ending! Please?

I personally subscribe to it. Not enough to argue with anyone who thinks he's dead-- I am also okay with this interpretation. I will take all mockery as long as it isn't flames. Seriously. I have no problem with this ending.

The most common argument against this theory is that, "It steals all the emotion out of things! The point was for Lelouch to die! Actually die!"

And I'm like, "So what? Lelouch is a fucking cheater."

Your argument... so... compelling. (:

No, seriously, Lelouch cheated his way out of everything up to that point, why not his death ( ... )

Ways to atone that do not involve his death...

...like, I dunno, staying alive and watching over the entire world for all eternity? XD

He didn't even work against his own death plot. Suzaku and CC cried because he was consigning himself to an immortal's lonely fate. They were all in on it. It's just Lelouch's last big show! ...for this century at least. He always has to do things with a bang, you know. Meanwhile Lelouch is proving to CC that life is what matters, just so he can win an argument against her for once. Also Lelouch watches politics on TV in a crappy hotel room in the middle of bumblefuck nowhere, and he rages when things don't go according to plan. And CC teaches him the miracles of pizza when you don't have to worry about too much of it killing you.

...is my head cannon, anyway. I don't see why this is so easily dismissed.

Also, what are you talking about. Elvis, Tupac, and Michael Jackson are all alive and well on an island somewhere drinking champagne. Obviously.

Amelia Earhart picked them up. OF COURSE! XD elarielf April 3 2012, 01:33:28 UTC

I KNOW, RIGHT? That fits in SO MUCH BETTER with the story and the themes!

I think so anyways.

My doubt comes in with Lelouch cheating death. I can buy him having another plan and seeing it through, but not lying to Suzaku and C.C. during the lead up to Zero Requiem. But even that's YMMV.

Lelouch accidentally living, Lelouch planning a spectacular death scene and then living on as a guardian of the world, Suzaku or C.C. cheating and messing up his plan? All those I can accept.

My only doubt is for people who think that he tricked everyone to continue to live on and have adventures and never pay the price for his actions. Because he wanted to pay a price at the end, and denying him that is denying a large chunk of his character growth.

Yup. He didn't lie to them, they were in on it. It was his plan to live all along because that eternal hellish existence IS his price. It's not happily ever after, but it's DEFINITELY more fun this way.
