I practiced my dancing again today - it's coming along reasonably well I think. Some undesirably aspects are just a matter of practise, others are things like the teacher not showing us yet how to do a camel, but fitting a camel piece into the choreography and showing those who don't know how to do it a simpler version (I really wish I could do a ( Read more... )

Camels aren't nearly as hard as they make out. Practice these 3 movements:

1. stand with one foot slightly in front of the other and shift your weight from the back foot to the front and back, no need to lift your feet, just rock.
2. tilt your pelvis. just tuc it up, then release.
3. push your belly out like you are pretending to be pregnant (or is it just me that does that) and then suck it in like someone is trying to poke you.

Put the 3 together.
As your weight shifts forwards drop your pelvis out of posture (untuck) and push your tummy out. As you come back, tuck your pelvis again and pull in your tummy.

I like to imagine I am a digger, scooping things up with my pelvis.
