A couple of months ago, I was listening to a segment on NPR with Gene Kelly's widow, and she was talking about how his legacy -- she thought, and he thought -- was mostly about him changing the way dance was shown on film. Which makes sense: he's probably the only significant dancer/choreographer/director, right? Of course he was more dedicated to finding the best ways to show good dance on films. She was talking about how it's since regressed, and how whenever you watch a modern musical the dance scenes are all quick cuts, rather than long frames. Because it's not about the dance itself, it's about the fact that they're dancing. (Compare:
An American in Paris to
Dreamgirls).
I thought: I wonder if anyone has ever used this framework to analyze kpop music vidoes.
And then I thought: No one but you would ever do that.
And then I thought: I miss lj.
(And then I thought: actually, that whole thing would be pretty dull, because kpop is probably all quick cuts.)
I don't know why I had to type all that I'm actually just here because I love making people do this dumb meme I made up and there's still no better place to do it:
Top thirty kpop songs/promotional tracks from 2015. Go.
Same rules:
- thirty songs exactly, no honorable mentions or "these two are tied for thirty and thirty-one", you're gonna have to make some hard decisions and it's gonna be okay.
- RANK THEM!
- This is actually not really a "top thirty kpop songs" game, it's a "top thirty korean promotional tracks" game. So no Japanese tracks, and no album "filler" songs*. Which I know is kind of annoying -- I loved 4minute's "Whatever" and SNSD's Japanese singles more than a lot of the songs on my list. But I think there's a lot of interesting stuff that happens in the bottom ten when you're making just a list of promotional tracks. It reveals a lot about the randomer passing fondnesses you guys have -- in a way it's more interesting than the top ten (THOUGH THAT'S FUN TOO). Anyway. I MAKE THE RULES, AND THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE. THEY HAVE TO BE PROMOTIONAL SINGLES!
- This is a list of favorites, not a list of bests. Never forget that!
*this rule sucks EXTRA in the year of "Check" and "Papi", doesn't it?
