Remember this kpop game from last year? Today I'm working on my craftier Christmas presents and watching Christmas movies with my roommates and MAYBE going to the grocery store bc even though I have a ton of food I don't think I have anything I could actually make into a cohesive meal, ( so what I'm saying is it's a good day to play this again. )

This is such a good mix of things I was totally sure you would pick and a couple of things I wouldn't've guessed and a couple of things I haven't even heard (I just clicked into that Younha MV and WHY HAVEN'T I BEEN LISTENING TO HER ALL THIS TIME, MAN?? wasted months/years). I'm curious about how you felt about the other two Shinee songs from this year now though!

OMG ALEX I FORGOT TO ADD SPICA'S TONIGHT.. I LOVE THAT SONG. Got me through a 5k. But that song is definitely before dream girl ahaha

Younha is sooooo good, I like the cute choreographed dance too..

I wanted so badly to like Why So Serious and Everybody but it turns out that i HATED Everybody and only mildly liked WSS, and that one grew on me. And that album was SO good. Like A Fire is probably my favorite Shinee song this year. I'm one of those fans who just wishes they wouldn't dye their hair and wouldn't wear aqua colored suits and just go back to the r&b sound though. I mean the dance for Everybody is a feat (but also kind of lolsy) and we all know Shinee is capable of that.. but I just didn't like the song and that's like 70% of the level of enjoyability for me. I hated the dubstep-esque sound. I just HATE that sound!! How about you? Did you like it?

I didn't like Tonight the first time I heard it! I'm p sure it's still on my workout playlist though so there was definitely a turnaround somewhre.

Yeah the mv was also really lovely!!

I had to go back and look up the Everybody MV because I think I only listened to it one time? I don't think I even hated it, I was just v ambivalent. I think I was madder about Why So Serious because I loved the bridge before the chorus (THIS PART) truly madly deeply but................ that wasn't the song?? I honestly think I have it queued up to that in my itunes. The only other time I've felt the need to do that is when I had SJM's My All Is In You queued up to Zhou Mi's adlibs. Idk... weird year for Shinee, I thought? Lots of high points and some lower ones. They do tend to be better when they stick to the r&b... that was a lot of why the albums were so good.

ALSO THE MVS FOR BOTH OF THEM WERE SO BORING SM-STYLE? The Dream Girl one was so excellent/not SM formula. I thought it and Growl both were great examples of how you can do a new-looking/interesting mv without a "story".

Definitely a weird year for Shinee. Better than last year's Sherlock, I guess? The albums were solid but the promotional singles were all over the place. The onew bridge is great, I agree! I like how f(x)'s RPPP was the least confusing single out of SM this year. hahaha I'm sure DBSK's is gonna be a m e s s.

Re: MVs RIGHT?!?! I think WSS was kind of fun but Everybody was just *eyeroll* Growl was brilliant and Dream Girl was just so fun & cute, which reminds me I should rewatch it.

I wish BoA came out with something this year, sniffles. Also what do you think of SM Rookies? I haven't really been following but I think I am doing a kpop catch up this weekend!

I'M SO TORN ABOUT DBSK'S TEASER, man. On the one hand it... sounds good? On the other it looks kind of atrocious.

WSS was fun but generic. I mean it's a sliding scale, I guess? Dream Girl/Growl were great, WSS/IGAB/Wolf were like, fine, Everybody and Rum Pum Pum Pum were offensively boring. Rum Pum Pum Pum looked like literally every other f(x) mv in the last two years. I'm still feeling a little fumey about it.

Omg actually I'm logged into my music tumblr right now and I was looking back through to see what people had posted and I looooved this post about BoA this year. I think it's a little over-praisey (lol Action even having the potential to be a "career high" of BoA's) but still solid. Obviously Japanese releases are never gonna be quite as much fun as Korean ones because you don't get the performances and the variety tour but... she was up to some good stuff. Hopefully she'll have a comeback in 2014 though.

I haven't paid attention to SM Rookies at all! I honestly barely even know what they're doing. You should tell me if you think it's interesting/worthwhile but otherwise I will probably remain in the dark.
