UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME: Idk how I feel about Joannie Rochette getting bronze. When it happened I was touched and completely understood-- but when it happened I was assuming that a) Joannie's lead in the short program helped, b) one of Mirai's jumps had been downgraded, since the announcers were going on and on about how she had a habit of having that happen, and c) it was very close. But I have since checked the detailed scores the Olympics website posted. Joannie did have a seven point lead on Mirai coming out of the short, and Mirai's jumps were fine: she actually had about five points on Joannie in the technical section, which... makes sense, given the stumbling. If the win had come in that two-point margin, then okay yeah totally. BUT YOU GUYS IT DIDN'T. SHE WON BY LIKE TEN POINTS THAT SHE GAINED IN THE PROGRAM COMPONENTS. Ugh I am sorry, but that night she did not have Mirai on artistry. She was (understandably) a little off, a little not all there, and that is why she stumbled in that footwork sequence, and that is why she two-footed those jumps. And Mirai is not the kind of teenage american skater Sarah Hughes or Tara Lipinski or Rachael Flatt were/are-- she skates beautifully to back up those triples, and god DAMN her spins are badass. Joannie did BEAUTIFULLY, and she was absolutely top 4 (lol wtf was up with Miki Ando's program... I usually like her but...) but IDK GUYS, I'M NOT SURE SHE WAS TOP 3. Ugh and while Mirai will probably hopefully be back in 2014, don't you kind of wonder? Sometimes I feel like there's a terrible tragedy of timing for some Olympians who peak in the years between-- remember Kimmie Meissner?
THAT SAID THESE GAMES WERE TIMED PERFECTLY FOR KIM YU-NA, AND I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.
I JUST WANT YOU TO LOOK, not just at her face, but at his: ngth Yu-Na and Brian Orser, THANKS FOR GIVING US A LITTLE TASTE OF REAL LIFE FOUND FAMILY. That blue tie he's wearing? She gave it to him for his birthday, and he wore it to match her skating dress. You can just TELL he loves her and protects her and makes the training enjoyable for her and I JUST ♥______________♥
She also idolizes Michelle Kwan, and they totally bffed it up when they were practicing Yu-Na's ice show over the summer:
YES: she got Michelle
back on ice and, at the same event,
skated with Stephane Lambiel. Did I mention she also sings and
did a little duet with my bb Taeyeon? (GOD, POP BALLADS THOUGH: SO BORING). I MEAN, REALLY YU-NA, LIKE YOUR BEAUTIFUL SKATING AND STOICISM AND ADORABLE LITTLE FACE WERE NOT ENOUGH, you don't need to keep appealing to me like this. I LOVE YOU, IT IS A DONE DEAL.
OKAY ENOUGH, but heyyyy friends! I MISS YOU. I want to say that now that my midterms are finished I will be around so much more, but uh. Turns out my new obsession with Korean pop music has an inverse relationship with me being an awesome LJ friend. Lol my life.
