Because I'm sick of the same old refrain...

...I thought I'd shake things up a bit.

Stolen from just about everyone at this point...

Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Fay chose silver glitter instead of gold") or big (e.g. "and then Rose was arrested instead of Jack") and I'll tell ( Read more... )

Lost In The Wishing Well: What if Jo had spoken rather than just acted in taking Dean?

That's an interesting question!

Dean was in a *very* dark place during the time frame that I used for the story, the same mind-space that made him beat up the Impala (which I thought was one of the best metaphors for Dean's self-loathing as any the show has used). He was using one-night-stands for therapy, just to feel something, and sometimes we all do stupid things just to feel something - even when we know it's not the right thing to do.

I mean, I know he viewed himself as taking advantage of Jo and that he didn't consider her "just another girl in a bar" because that's how I wrote him. ;) I do think that, by talking to him, Jo would have reinforced the whole "not just a girl from a bar" mindset and nothing would have happened in a sexual context. At least not in the mindset that he was in.

Hmm, not sure if that's the answer you expected. ;)

Actually, it is basically what I expected to hear, LOL! Like you said, Dean wasn't looking for verbal comfort at the time. So I definitely see what you're saying.

No, he wasn't. And I know he felt as though he were taking advantage of her, regardless of her actions, you know?

So this is way late but I'm putting my two cents in just in case you're amused by my questions. :D
What if Dean hadn't walked in on Sam and Sally F. that time on the couch? You know what I'm talking about ;)
What if Deane happened to be on the same landmass as Penelope when he heard she was soon to be married?
What if Charlotte also had a roommate in college?
What if Simon were alive and concerned about River hitting the road with some other escaped patient and his brother?

I think I could go on for hours but I have to walk the dog. The poor animal is practically crossing his little paws.

Man, you're going to make me think, aren't you?

What if Dean hadn't walked in on Sam and Sally F. that time on the couch?

It wouldn't have gone farther than it did in Iambic Pentamer, though there would have been less clothing involved. I always saw the two of them as being rather innocent in their relationship, both of them awkward and not used to that kind of attention, so there were lines that they would not cross.

At least until they meet again.

What if Deane happened to be on the same landmass as Penelope when he heard she was soon to be married? This is tricky. The easy answer is to say that he would have obeyed John but the real answer is that he would have only partially followed his father's orders. He would have made it to the wedding to see her but wouldn't have said anything because of what happened to his mother ( ... )

hee! you made me clap my hands together in glee.

wait a minute, At least until they meet again? *does double take* *beams*

aw, deane! he would assume that she's better off with peter. *pouts* silly deane.

ha! i LOVE the idea of charlotte with a strict sex schedule. dean would make fun of her and have them synchronize their watches. i like that you've already seen them use space creatively.

oh, simon! yes, that's exactly right.

You know, I should send you my outtakes for Dean and Charlotte that never made it to the book, partially because I decided to not make John one of the bad guys - I felt that it was an unfair characterization of him in the end.

But you did make me pull out all of the outtakes. ;)
