(1) 15000 determined little honey bees (YAY, bees!!) set up shop in my yard whilst I was gone, in a water cutoff access below my faucet. Four combs full of honey and babies! The beekeeper came and removed them (very carefully mind!) and was very happy to find another healthy hive of non-Africanized bees for his collection, as well as to collect my $$ for moving them to a new home! Glad to do my bit for the planet (and to have access to my faucet again).
(2) Star Trek rocks! I went to see it last night with my three guests (who had seen it before in New Zealand) and I grinned like a loon through the whole thing, laughing out loud at some of the very pointed "inside jokes". (Chekov's accent had me giggling like a 16-year-old again.) What a fun ride! I have to go see it again. I love a movie that makes me laugh out of sheer joy. (And isn't Karl Urban amazing? Actually, they are ALL amazing!) What FUN!
(3) I also started watching Battlestar Galactica (finally
merryb_esq!!) Thank you Netflix! It is not at all what I expected, having watched the series way back went dinosaurs walked the earth, and I am enjoying it very much. I love the complexity of the characters and the analysis of political and religious issues. Very interesting.
(4) My three world travelers are watching THE trilogy, one movie a night, extended edition. So cool. I hear them now and again in the den exclaiming "Look! We were THERE!" Hee. Glory and trumpets, how could anyone have filmed these movies anywhere else on earth?
(5) Next post will be reviews and recs of fanfic and commercial fic that I have managed to read in the last few months. Very few things, sadly enough, but hey, a page or two a night ain't bad considering. Woot!
(6) The desktop meme!! Gakked from all over the place. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this. The point is to see what you had on.
1 - This is John Howe's "A Hobbit Dwelling" and it is my special place. When I need to relax and get away in my head without getting away in reality, this is where I go in my head.
2 - I have a copy of this on my cell phone as the background, it is the wallpaper on my laptop, and a framed copy hangs above my desk. (I wish I had a bigger framed version for my bedroom!)
3 - It can be manipulated to show different seasons in the Shire, without altering the basic beauty of the pic (see my icon).
4 - You can SMELL it -- the scent of the flowers around the stoop, the wind blowing off the fields, the sun-warmed dirt of Sam's garden, the pipeweed in the pocket of Frodo's jacket hanging on the coat rack, and a hint of cinnamon floating in from the kitchen.
5 - You can hear it as well -- birds in the trees down by the Water, voices from the fields further away, a passing pony on the Hill Road, and Sam whistling in the garden.
6 (BONUS) - Frodo might walk in any moment!!
(7) I am trying to catch up. I know I missed a lot in the last six months. If there is anything I should know/read/hear about, please let me know!!
MWAH!
