I have been playing the tuba in marching band for five years. I played mallets for concert band/honour band/jointure band/marching band for about five years.
At my perc tech class on Thursday, Jim asked me if I were ready to switch from tuba to mallets. He was probably saying it half-jokingly, but I have been thinking about it since the start of this semester. Should I switch back to mallets and join the pit for marching band next year? I love both instruments, and I get along with and like the people in both sections. Both the pit and the tuba section are filled with crazy people having crazy times and sharing crazy stories. I don't know what to do. I feel like the tuba has become a part of who I am...how people think of me. I am the crazy, blue-haired, short girl who plays the tuba which is almost as big as she.
On the one hand, I want continue with playing the tuba. It really is a lot of fun - especially with all the crazy tuba stuff we do. On the other hand, I want to go back to playing the band instrument I started off with. It challenges me and the pit members are pretty crazy as well.
What should I do?
