Unbelievable.

Muslim children gassed at Dayton mosque after "Obsession" DVD hits Ohio.

Guys, I haven't said anything about the election until now because so many other people have, and I really don't think I have anything substantiative to add. That said? This is me saying something.

Those of you who're 18: Vote. Please, please vote. If you can do more, that's amazing - and please do, because this election can't be won without people working for it! - but if voting is all you do, then fine. Vote. Vote against this kind of hateful, unbelievable bullshit, because dammit, I want a country I can actually feel good about living in. We've grown up under Bush, most of us, so we probably don't know what that feels like - I definitely don't! - but I'd like a try, all right? Because it's time for a change. Yes, I mean Obama. If you want, I could list off endless reasons why McCain and Palin aren't any kind of change at all, except maybe for the worse, but I'm trying not to clutter this up any more than I have to.

Those of you who aren't 18: Sorry, guys, but even though you can't vote yet, I'm still going to say: you can still help out. Volunteer; register other people to vote (in most states the deadline is October 4!); call people; enter data, whatever it takes. I didn't do any of this crap in 2004 when I was 14, because I don't like talking to people, and I've felt bad about it ever since - lots of Michigan volunteers ended up working in Ohio by the end of the day, where they were desperately needed to stop voter disenfranchisement, so who knows? maybe I could've changed the election. But I didn't.

I know it sounds scary and unpleasant - calling people up to tell them what to do and ask for their time and money. And sometimes it is. But sometimes, you get really awesome people on the other end, like the little old lady who told my dad in great and obscene detail just what she'd like to do to Bush and Cheney - and always - ALWAYS - you're helping.

CHANGE THE WAY THINGS WORK!

dead serious, politics
