NIGELLA LAWSON IS NO TRANS ALLY OF MINE
I’ve not reported full details of the matter here because I want this site to be a space to report campaign issues - the legal battle for ‘X’ PASSPORTS in the UK and the wider campaign for legal and social recognition - however recent news reports that elevate Nigella Lawson as some kind of iconic trans ally have opened up a big can of worms for me.
Nigella Lawson is better known today as a TV presenter and cake maker. Her previous career as a columnist for the London Evening Standard is generally forgotten. Except that I cannot forget - although until recently rarely gave much thought to - an extremely offensive diatribe aimed at me in her column in which my life saving surgery was in turn described as “brutal”, “mutilation” and “self-mutilation”. My non-gendered identity was completely disregarded as she inappropriately referred to me using gendered definitions and pronouns throughout the piece which was published in October 1993.
I have now suggested in a series of tweets that this might be the time for Nigella Lawson to apologise for her offensive comments.
I do not intend this site to become a running commentary on the matter however direct anyone who is interested in reading further details to my Twitter account …………………
