So since I've been studying Greek Tragedy all day, I figured I'd post a poem I wrote about Greek life. Comment... tell me what you think:
Symposium Modern*
Honored guests gather
Taking their places
Among the crowded seats
Refreshments disperse
Like loaves of bread
And pieces of fish
And are drank
From red plastic kylix (1)
By the Dixie potter. (2)
As the glass amphorae (3)
Flow empty
Spirits dance
Like green fairies
In the hazy stale air.
Faces blur, you squint
To focus
And you open
To refocus
On the silhouette
Of my unsteady walk
Stumbling among the
Toga clad Crowd
of quasi-Dionysian followers.
Your hand clutches
Greek letters painted
On the wall
As you brace yourself
For a spoiled waterfall
To flow from the
Inside-out
Releasing the miasmic gasses
Of your acidic hubris (4)
You have dared
To twice reach a 40oz (5)
Euphoric state
With silver duct tape
Wrapped around the
Bottle and your hands.
But the Catharsis (6)
Is seen in the resulting
Poetry painted across
The front of your pants.
* A symposium refers to the title of drinking parties given to those of Ancient Greece. The Term Symposium Modern refers to modern day Greek drinking parties, or more colloquially, College Frat parties.

5. “To Twice reach a 40oz Euphoric State” refers to the drinking game Edward 40 hands in which two 40oz bottles of beer are taped to each hand. The bottles cannot be removed until either the participant finishes both 40oz, or begins to throw up.
6. Catharsis - Emotional outpouring, revelation. In this context, the Catharsis is meant to pun on the physical outpouring of vomit resulting from alcohol.
