Puppies and Kitties

Comics result in not a lot of free time.

I just wrapped up all the art for issue 2 of IN MAPS & LEGENDS last week, so I've been spending this week catching up on everything else I've put off! I've been working on IM&L probably 30+ hours a week, and, with 8 more issues to go, that will probably continue for the next year. Whew...

(So if you haven't gotten issue 1 yet, do it! Let me know what you think. It's only worth it if people are reading it :))

Last month (or the month before? man time goes fast), I was invited to team up with manwithjewels (aka Kevin Czapiewski, who graduated from CIA the year before me) and a bunch of others and make a minicomic. They passed it out at SPX and are planning to sell it at PIX in Pittsburgh next weekend, but you can also get a copy from his website for $3! I had a four page story in it, you can see a sample on my site, which I have conveniently updated... two months after the book was done. I know. Bad. http://www.niki-smith.com/

What else! We got a CAT! Yes, yes we did. For the longest time we put off getting one, due to worries about traveling and the possibilities of living in Europe at some point... but we looked into everything and have a bunch of cat-sitters we can rely on and yeah. CAT!

Her name is Patje, which means, very roughly, "little turtle", a'cause she's a tortoiseshell... It also rhymes with the dutch word for cat, "katje". Pronounce it like pah-tyeh.

We have a little nook in our kitchen wall where, I presume, people used to put their big clunky telephones. ...I kind of doubt we'll ever have a home phone line. Does anyone bother anymore? Anyways! It makes the ideal kitteh-nook.

Patje has a little pirate ear. She was found on the street a week before we got her from the shelter, along with her litter of two kittens. She's 2 years old, but pretty small... and while she was found as a single mother on the streets, it's clear she was once a housepet. Litter box trained like a pro.

And boy is she a cuddler.

We're feeding her a mix of kibble and raw food right now- can't really go all out on the raw food diet ($$), but she's more than happy to eat scraps of chicken we would have otherwise tossed! Adorable little carnivore that she is.

Yeah, I know. New mom syndrome. :P But what is the internet for, if not for posting cat photos? (Kiri put a few more up on her lj if ya wanna see.)
