Your writing about this place will preserve it forever in our minds and hearts. *loves*
Having said that, I am so sorry that this happened to you. I know very well that sometimes a place touches you, makes you feel at home, and your grief when it's suddenly gone is very real and hurtful. Among other places, I felt that way when the path down to Wilson Stream was cut down and stripped. Walking down that path had always been a peaceful solace, and held many good memories, so to see it bare and desolate (no more "Golden Arches"!) with piles of dirt and gravel all over the place was so sad.
I think it's a great idea to bring something for the tree and also to spread wildflower seeds. *hugs*
The water tower sounds really creepy, and I'm glad you stayed away from it after your initial encounter. And yeah, it's disturbing to know that a building is being constructed there. Some people do have those experiences all the time, and some only have them occasionally, if at all. I'm sure you remember the time I sort of freaked out when we were at Katahdin Iron Works. I have been there since, and made myself go to the same spot, but didn't feel it; however, I think it might have been the day or time of year, because when I think back on it, it seems like the milkweed silk blowing in the wind in the field where we were standing was more important than the structure itself. All I know is that I felt intense grief, and it felt to me like a woman who had lost her child or some other loved one.
