“How far is heaven?” she asked her mother one day.
“Honey, why do you want to know? You won’t be going to heaven. You and I are going to live forever.” She touched her nose with her child’s, sharing the best secret in the world.
“Why?” Nessie touched her mother’s face and images of people dying-some she didn’t know, some she did-filled her mind. Bella sighed.
“Because we’re very lucky,” she said.
Edward tensed behind Bella while he ran his fingers over the piano keys.
Bella sighed, unsure, then. “I hope.”
Edward couldn’t smirk in victory this time.
