At last the promised concert report! ^^
Well, as I already mentioned
Tarja Turunen the ex-singer of the Finnish melodic metal band
Nightwish came to Graz as part of her second solo tour. Somehow I missed this fact and only a week before the concert I found out and thank god I was still able to get tickets for the show. Which I'm most happy about is that I was able to convince my boyfriend,my sister and a very good friend of mine to come with me!!! =) And I saw another friend of mine there!
So on the 20th December we arrived at the Orpheum Graz (the location where the concert was held) at about 7pm and, what surprised me most, a lot of non-Austrian people were there. I couldn't quite make out the nationalities but I think most of them were from Slovenia.
When we finally were able to get into the hall (shortly before 8pm) I managed to get into the second row right in front of the center of stage! *happy* The stage was coverd with white plastic roses (of which I got two after the concert) and on the left there was a small platform for cellist, on the right one for the drummer, in center back one for the keyboarder, in the back there was also a huge poster of the logo of this tour and Tarja's face.
Before Tarja came onto stage there were two supporting bands from France
Benighted Soul which I really liked and Kells which were ok, in my opinion.
Géraldine Gadaut of Benighted Soul Virginie Goncalves of Kells
Until Tarja came onto stage the audience was quite 'civilized' but when Tarja came it exploded!! Tarja looked great (as always) and the thing I like about her the most is that her voice sounds exactly the same on stage as on the Cds!! And this is another fact why she is able to enchant me with her voice again and again!
The band which traveled with her consisted of Mike Terrana on drums, Christian Kretschmar on the keys, Kevin Chown on bass, Alex Schlopp on guitar and of Max Lilja on the cello. The guys were really great especially Mike ^^ he was really great. I took this short video of him playing. I'll maybe post it later...
Tarja played songs from her new album 'What Lies Beneath', from her old one 'My Winter Storm' and also some songs from her time when she was still a member of Nightwish.
The set list of the concert:
Dark Star
My little Phoenix
I feel Immortal
Naiad
Falling Awake
I Walk Alone
Little Lies
Underneath
Where were you last Night
a medley consisting of Lappi - Erämaajärvi, Damned and Divine, Die Alive and Walking in the Air
Ciaran's Well
In for a Kill
End of all Hope
Die Alive
Until My last Breath
(I'm not so sure about the medley because the set list I got after the show says something a little bit different but I'm writing what I can remember (^_~)
The concert was really great and I'm glad that Tarja came to Graz again after promising at the end of her last show here in Graz two years ago that she'll come back. The Orpheum is a really small location but it was full which pleased me most because last time it was half empty!!
Now here are some pictures I took:
