Well, I've been busy with work and stuffs, but I've been thinking about this for a while so it's time I jotted it all down. We'll have categories for both full releases and digital downloads for each system and an ultimate Game of the Year.
Wii
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
It came down to this and Animal Crossing for me, but I really felt like Brawl took home the gold. We played this game for almost 24 straight the first day it came out and played the entire next day too. Still sits next to my Wii for when company comes over.
WiiWare
World of Goo
There wasn't really any question about it. This game is amazing and I would have gladly paid full price for a retail release. I'm looking forward to more projects from 2D Boy.
PS3
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Single-handedly made my PS3 purchase worth it. Played through it multiple times and it was just as amazing every time through. The ending still brings me to tears.
PSN
Bionic Commando: Rearmed
Amazing game. I wish more companies could do retro-remakes like this. It's just that good. Had the perfect balance between remake and new content.
360
Left 4 Dead
After years of owning a 360 this was the game that made me spring for Live Gold. So much awesome pressed onto one disc. I love it and I will continue to love it forever and ever.
XBLA
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
Sorry, Braid. The original game that made my 360 purchase worthwhile made a stunning return with a totally worthwhile sequel. I still haven't been able to get all the achievements. Damn you, Wax Off!
DS
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
I don't know why Nintendo hasn't gotten the sequel to this out yet, but they need to speed it up a little. An amazing little gem of a game on a platform with dozens of great releases every month. If Nintendo fails to bring the sequels out here I will be soooo pissed...
Downloadable Game of the Year
Mega Man 9
Hell. Yes. While Mega Man X wore out his welcome years ago, I've been dying for a return to form for the original Blue Bomber, and what a return this game was. Capcom really polished this one up nicely and the 8-bit gameplay was the perfect touch. I'd love to get Mega Man 10 if it felt as right as this one. It's my favorite game in the original series. Splash Woman rules!
Game of the Year
Mother 3
The fact that this game didn't see a retail release is CRIMINAL. I'm putting it here as my Game of the Year because it totally deserves it. I ordered the fan strategy guide and bought both of the soundtracks on iTunes in an effort to show the fan translators and the original staff as much love as I can. Itoi is an absolute genius and I don't know if I've ever played a more touching game. This game had an even stronger emotional effect on me than MGS4 and I've been invested in that series for almost 10 years. Just thinking about it now makes me want to run home and boot it up. I think I'll go listen to the OST right now...
