My Dads book

I finished it today...I was on campus killing time for a while, and it was enough to finish the whole book. It really isn't that long, and a dedicated reader could probably finish it in an afternoon. This will be a short mini-summary/review.

Basically the book is a concise summary of many of the major points articulated by other writers like Sam Harris, Dawkins, and George H. Smith, with many of my dads ideas put in. Then, he goes into what a dangerous influence religion can be in politics, especially if some of the Christian fundamentalists that want control of our government have their say.

He hits a lot of major stuff. The following is basically a chapter summary:

1.) How the concept of God makes no sense
2.) The irreconcilable conflict between faith and reason/science
3.) How the Bible and Jesus are not "proof" of God by any means
4.) A rebuttal to Pascals Wager (arguably why most people still believe in God today)
5.) Why you dont need religion to be moral
6.) And finally, religion + politics = disaster

A nice read, and overall pretty good. A few typos here and there.

On a personal note, it was interesting to read a book that I know my dad wrote. I can tell it was him talking as I read. Sometimes it was evident. He has his own style.

I'll let anyone who wants it borrow it.
