Well, I expected to make at least 2nd clarinet, but I did one better! I made first!!! The part is almost, well ... not almost, but similar to my old part, it's just played in a higher octave and has different rythms and stuff. I wont lie to you and tell you it's cake, it's pretty hard (by my standards, lol) And I have to play all these really high notes that I'm used to playing, but not at this speed. Garhrhra. Jus' gotta practice alot.
Soooooo, anyways. Today was all right.
Um, we started off the day by doing full ensemble band and practiced Beethoven's 5th as a group before we had to go and play it for the BD and the others. It sounded ok, I guess, I can't really remember. Then he asked the flutes to go back into the uniform room to "audition" or whatever, I still dunno what to call it. That gave the rest of us time to practice. I mean, I did, but I talked more than I practiced.
Then we got called back, and first we had to play 3 parts of the song togther, and then had to play an open-hole G, and I looked down and saw my hands shaking like crazy!! It also didn't help that when Mr. McGouff asked for a volunteer, Jane and Pete walked out of the room! Leaving me to go first! Augh!!! But, I did ok, and I only messed up once, I squeaked near the end, but I mean, I'm a reedist, it happens. After that, they asked me what was the highest note I could play comfortably, and I said High E. Then Mr. Teare was like, Should we make her do sight-reading? I was like NOOOO!!! I hate sight reading, i'm bad at it.
So, I walked out, and Jane went in next. Then I just got some water and waited outside with Pete. Tori came in, and was talking to us about summer reading things, and how you don't even need to read "Mockingbird" because all the teachers review it extensively. ^_^ Hehe, yay. :-D Uh, then Jane came out and she taught me how to march backwards (well, sorta) and also taught me stand-by and ten-hut with instruments, because I had missed that last week.
After Pete came out, we all went outside to where the rest of the band was marching in block. They were just doin' the regular normal stuff. Nothing exciting. Then after a while of marching we went inside and ummmm ... what exactly were we doing? We were just sitting there until like 11:40, drawing and stuff because the BD was still doin' that audition thing. Maaaaaaan, it was fun. I got to play Sarah's baritone and Kaitlyn's flute! XD that excited me. We all wanted to make signs for our sections, because the guard had, but we didn't have time because Mr. McGouff called a lunch early. ;-)
So, we actually ate in the cafeteria today. It was fun. :-D Some old guy came by and was like, "Can you please be more quiet?" and we had noooooo idea who he was. But, we quited down, and then they came down and shut the door! How rude. x_o
Uh, then after that we had to go back outside and march some more. We learned something called "slide" and its so funny, and it hurts like hell to do. Then we did, like, Yoga or something. It was hilarious. OMFG I mean, hi-lar-i-ous. And then um, after almost 2 hours of marching and yoga, Mr. McGouff came out and talked to us about the parts we all got, and explained stuff like "Yeah, don't cry if you got a 2nd" and stuff. It's true, I would still be as happy as I am now had I got a 2nd part. Then after that we got to go inside. (Haha, band yoga.)
So, when we're in there, Mr. Teare starts handing out the parts, and to my amazement, I made 1st clarinet!!! It's like, freaking amazing. I couldn't believe it. Mr. McGouff said that he would tell each of us why he picked us for the part, and I'm rather interested in hearing about why he picked me to play the first part! Jane and Pete are both playing the 2nd clarinet parts.
So, after that, we did sectionals and practiced different peices of the 5 we had. I really really screwed up because sight-reading is not my forte. I didn't know how to finger a high F so I just didn't play them (but I do now thanks to my handy dandy fingering chart!)
Mr. Teare sat down and was telling us about band camp and stuff, and told us that this year our drills are really cool, and that it's going to be unlike anything NC has ever done, so I'm excited about that!!
Then after that we got to go home. ^______^ I practiced from the time I got home, until 6:10 :-D Hehehehe. I was having so much fun with it.
