Burlington Advantage! Hometown Boy Makes Golden Good!

Sep 07, 2011 13:51

This weekend was awesome.  I drew 25/36 blanks and went 14-4 +1300+ for the [ETA: Div. 2] gold.  I particularly loved:
The Hotel Room-

(Burlington,MArriott) with their very-comfy beds and easy outlet locations at table height!  (This may sound petty or bourgeois to some but sensible outlet placement is very nice).  The shower was hot, height adequate, and pressure decent.   Bedside flexi-snake LED reading bulbs with easy-to-reach switches?  Just wow.

The Food-

My first times at Chipotle, Pongal, and Fuddrucker's made for excellent eating all around.  The Indian fare in particular was so good and fresh!  The chiles in the tandoori were still very green and sweat-inducing.   Reasonable prices, large amounts, great atmosphere.

The Playing Space-

Very spacious, nice tablecloths and a great setting.  Sharing immediate space with drunken wedding guests did occasionally have its entertainment features as there was the (inevitable?) hallway yells of "Bingo!  Bingo!" by toddlers and adult children alike.  I found it pretty funny but it shouldn't be encouraged lest it be common.

The People-

I'm not sure exactly why (celebrating wedding anniversary? remembering passing of friends? sick of grumpiness and drama?) but many people who are usually cross or crotchety were in really good moods, which made it all the more pleasant to play against and around without the tension.  Undoubtedly the calm collected directorship of Judy Cole had something to do with it too.

The Games-

They were pretty fun and culminated in a Fireworks-Laden Finale.  I had already faced Brandon Randall twice and lost by 6 and 65, then won the penultimate game by 65.  I had a good feeling since my luck had been pretty good with drawing blanks so far, but I had no idea it was going to be that obscene.  Would you believe even with a 629 I missed 100+ points of equity?
