Tonight was my first night as a MSU telemarketer. I have no clue how much longer I will hold this title. Most likely, I give it a month, tops.
Imagine this, non-stop calling, no dialing (the computer does it for you), and trying to pronounce rediculous names only to offend the person on the line or be hung up on. To add to the chaotic non-stop dialing (imagine wearing headphones and hearing hundreds of numbers being dialed, and answering machines...blah), the supervisors listen in on sporatic calls and talk to you about your performance. I hate feeling like I'm under survaillience (sp?).
I am not a fan of telemarketers in general, so perhaps taking this job is hypocritical. The fact is though, that I am b-r-o-k-e, and any job that will pay me $8.25/hour to sit around in a/c and read from a script will have to do.
I did talk to this woman in Florida though, who was COMPLETELY against scholarships. She went on, and on, and on about it, to the point where I couldn't get a single word in. Who doesn't love hearing a 75 year old librarian talk about how kids have it so easy these days? ha.
Anyways, tomorrow I get to welcome all the kiddies at AOP and hand out newspapers for the State News... should be fun!
Some things to look forward to:
