She thought "Mama Said" would be appropriate, then cheered me up with sarcasm. I hesitate at everything- never sure - but I don't regret anything. I have a bad attitude but I'm a push-over. I start school on Monday, part-time. Then, maybe supervising at Borders. "What do you mean you have a job?" Well, you half-assed-glasses-wearing-student-counselor, not everyone has the oppurtunities you had. And besides that - not everyone wants everything handed to them. Or maybe more familiar to my situation - not everyone knows what they want to do. You know, some people hesitate at everything.
It just eats away at me, the way I though about education before and how I'm sad about it now. It's romantic, the idea that people genuinely want to learn and help. No, this is how it works. You finish high-school where you've slacked off and made deals with each one of your teachers - Okay, if you stay after school three days a week and shit only in the third-floor-far-right stall then you totally pass. Anyway, you get those deals done with and then you figure - I guess I will go to college. And NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. No one cares. Who is going to vote ? I don't think anyone is being educated on the things that are actually going to effect our future. Do you care that we are heading for a recession, do you even know ? Do you realize how that will fuck with your Marc Jacobs or Nikes? Do you know anything about outsourcing and the poor young woman who is paid in shit to make your 100 dollar whatever. WAKE THE FUCK UP. It's funny, I want you to go back in time - remember when you listened to puck music and you were angry. YOU NEED TO BE ANGRY BECAUSE YOU SHOULD BE ANGRY.
Listen, do you know that our government knew about Darfur, they were obviously well-aware about the death rate. And if you want me to appeal to your sympathy, we are talking about women and children murdered. And women are brutally raped- and in case you DON'T KNOW, in their community if you've been raped then you are shunned from society, you are dirty. Not the man who raped you, but YOU, the victim, you're dirty. WHY AREN'T WOMEN ANGRY ? Our government sent in soldiers to document that tragedy so that we could be sure it was a genocide but they could not interfere. They could watch women get gang raped, then beaten, or spit on - they could not do a damn thing but videotape it so Condi could pretend to watch it later. And then, when our govenrment finally released a statement that confirmed that what was going on in Darfur was in fact genocide - we still have not lent a hand. And where is all the money going.... oh yeah, Iraq . And we are making so much progress right. Douche-bag oil sucker Bush doesn't care about the deaths. Hell, half of the soldiers don't even have bullet-proof vests. It's a joke, it's almost hillarious that he is golfing and giggling while soldiers are dying. WHY AREN'T YOU ANGRY. And I'm not saying that I'm an authority on the matter, I'm not going to school as a poli-sci major, but I'm reading every now and then, and I'm angry. The first step is making people aware and making people angry about it. No one is going to care unless you tell it to them in a way that's directly going to effect them. Well, all I can say is look of recession and see what's going to happen if no one finds a way to reverse the direction we're heading in - see how you are going to be abe to live in such a commercial haze when all the money's gone.
